Faus & Moliner participates at Infarma 2016
Jordi Faus makes a presentation on hospital dispensing of medicinal products
The National Pharmacists Association of Madrid and the National Pharmacists Association of Barcelona invited Jordi Faus to participate at Infarma 2016, the reference Pharmaceutical Congress in Europe in which speakers from different European countries address the main topics of interest for the pharmacists at present.
Jordi Faus makes a presentation on hospital dispensing of medicinal products. In his presentation, he makes an exhaustive review of the legislative development of this topic showing how the concept of hospital dispensing was born with the purpose to provide a response to certain concerns related with the appropriate use of the medicinal products; and how it has presently become an economic management tool.
As regards the future, Jordi Faus explains that the change in the current status will require a modification of the Law on guarantees and rational use of medicinal products or a review of the criteria applied by the Ministry of Health regarding the imposition of the special reserves to the dispensing. According to Jordi Faus, compulsory hospital dispensing may be questioned from the point of view of the principle of proportionality insofar as it represents an important limitation on the exercise of the pharmacist profession allegedly in order to achieve objectives which could be reached through other measures.
The participation of the pharmacy in the comprehensive healthcare process; the objective of efficient allocation of resources; and the point of view of the patients are elements that enable a reflexion on the suitability to modify the current system.
